Five More Departments Under Threat

Further to the departments of Politics & Communications, Philosophy and Statistics that have already been reported as being earmarked for closure, news site  The Times Higher Education is now reporting that a further 5 departments are under threat of closure by the university management.

Also considered for closure are the departments of civil engineering, cancer studies, dentistry, American studies and sociology as the university adopts a euthanasia style approach to underperforming departments.

Many departments feel dismayed by the action taken by the university. Dr Simon Hailwood of the Philosophy department has stated “Obviously we are very unhappy to hear this news” “As yet there has been no proper external review of the Philosophy Department with regards to the proposal or genuine consultation with ourselves about it”

Surely civil eng. and dentistry wouldn't go - Liverpool's pretty good for those and they must have had a load of money poured into them!
