Red Perilla restaurant set to sizzle this summer (incl. graduation deal!)

Red Perilla is situated on Smithdown Road and was recently opened by the Parry Brothers who also own a second restaurant, La Paz in West Kirby. Red Perilla has taken over the former Mustard site. The Parry brothers have completely refurbishment and revamped the site. The result is a brand new steakhouse and bar that is sure to become a regular of Wavetree/Allerton residents.

I decided to go the restaurant last weekend to watch the first of the England matches in the World Cup. It was busy but there were ample seats to view one of the many screens within the venue. The bar has a full menu available in the week, a lunch menu and children’s menu. For the match the bar had put on several meals with a deal of a drink, meal and seat for £9.

I decided to choose the Red Perilla burger, with fries and chilli jam and my friend chose a steak sandwich with fries and pepper perilla sauce. Although the place was busy due to the match, the staff was attentive and came to the table to take our food and drink order. Visually, the food did not disappoint - it came out bursting off the plate.

My burger was freshly made, placed within a ciabatta bun, it was very delicious and the chilli jam was just hot enough to complement the richness of the meat. The steak was immersed in a tasty sauce with onions and a crisp, slightly toasted sandwich. My friend thought that the sandwich was a real treat – forgetting about her earlier plans for a dieting day!

The atmosphere was great, it was too bad that England did not come through with a winning match but none the less the £9 meal, drink and seat made me feel better. The bar stayed busy after the match with an acoustic duo providing a mix of pop and indie covers. After the match, we felt like a cocktail and the bar staff were more than happy to make something up for us – a sherbet, strawberry based drink with plenty real fruit to enjoy once we had emptied the jug.

I really enjoyed my visit to Red Perilla and would definitely recommend you take a visit. The only drawback was the lack of parking but with that much booze on offer, why would you want to drive?

Coming up to graduation, if you are looking for a venue for pre or post drinks and food I would definitely recommend Red Perilla. The owner informed me that from July 12-23, Monday to Friday, if you book a table and quote “graduation” you can receive up to 50% off the food bill, tables of 2-3 get 20% off, 4-5 get 30%, 6-7 is 40% and 8 or more get a full 50% off the food bill, with some free fizz to drink per graduate. Less money on food means more for booze – might just be worth a shot!
