Rev. Jesse Jackson speaking at Univeristy of Liverpool, Mountford Hall, 2.30pm, 2nd.December.2008
In the tremendous wake of what has been one of the most historically poignant moments of the 21st century – the election of the 44th President of the United States of America (the results of which came through in the early hours of the 5th of November) announcing Barak Obama as the President Elect – Rev. Jesse Jackson will be speaking at the University of Liverpool in Mountford hall at 2.30pm on Tuesday the 2nd of December.

Our generation cannot fully appreciate or really comprehend what it was like to have lived and fought during the Civil Rights movement in America. Just as few people then dared to hope for the change that has occurred over the last half a decade. Hence, it is incredibly moving just imagining how Jesse Jackson must have been feeling in the Chicago crowd as Obama’s Electoral College votes passed the 270 mark; which secured him his victory. Americans had finally restored the world’s faith in the United States.

Subsequently, Jesse Jackson, having been a leading figure and activist in the American Civil Rights movement, as well as a church minister and a politician, where he persued his fight for civil rights onto an international scale, and seats in Mountford hall being few, tickets sold out within 24hours. Since then the only way to get hold of a ticket seems to have been to enter the competition draw and so I feel unbelievably fortunate to be able to attend; and will report back shortly.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson will be talking on: The Struggle Goes On: The fight for civil rights both past and present.
