Kasabian: WHY THE HYPE???
Having recently read some reviews of Kasabian live in Liverpool this semester, I thought it was high time to put my opinion out there.
You won’t like it but...
I can’t stand bloody Kasabian.
With everyone raving about their live performances, their new album, their rise to absolute superstardom, I can’t help but think...’what?’
O.K so they must have something about them, some likeability which has allowed this to happen and therefore this view is not going to be shared by that many, I appreciate that, but it has to be said. How can you love those repetitive... repetitive... repetitive beats twinned with those dreary, monotone, boring vocals so much that you go crazy at gigs?! I suppose most Kasabian fans are not the sort to go to hardcore dance clubs playing that genre originated in the 90’s where all the DJ has to do is play the same four beats over and over. But that’s all Kasabian do too. I was ‘lucky’ enough to see Kasabian at the Echo this November (don’t worry I’m not a massive hypocrite, I got in free and only went with the hope that they would convert me and make me love them...they didn’t.) and my word it was the most boring gig I have ever been to. Where this suggestion of an incredible atmosphere and almost euphoric sensation they are said to instil came from I have no idea. All I got was being shoved around in the middle of a rowdy crowd for the first minute or so of every song after which even the real fans seemed to get bored and stop moving.
Why don’t I get it? I want to love Kasabian. I used to love Kasabian. The ‘Clubfoot’, ‘LSF’, ‘Processed Beats’ era was awesome, edging on boringly repetitive but luckily not quite there, and I loved it. And now even those epic songs are ruined live, the boring monotony of ‘West Ryder’ creeping in and chipping away at the excitement these songs have the capacity to create. What’s more, I want to love Kasabian because they are my local band, and I think it’s awesome how well they have done for a bunch of lads from Leicester (let’s face it, Leicester isn’t the best place for music in the country.) I just wish that I found them just as awesome.
I’m not suggesting that all you fans out there are ‘wrong’ in any way, I just challenge you to give me something to change my mind, perhaps my eyes are closed to their glory, or whatever, but I just do not see it.

I'm with you all the way. They bore the pants off of me.
One of the best live bands I've ever seen. Two of my favourite albums of the decade (admittedly the second one is pretty poor). But then how boring would music be without differing opinions?
Im sorry but if you dont like 'it' then don't bloody listen to them and let them get on with what there doing!?
They dont even know you or me exist and theyv got massivley famous doing what they do! accept it. I love ther music bar the last end of the second album, you'd give your right arm to be in Tom or serges boots pal!
